Justice and Community Life
Justice and Outreach
Grosvenor Park United Church celebrated its Affirming Ministry designation in May of 2009. This means that the congregation voted to work for inclusion and justice for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. This decision came after over four years of discussion and education. We hope that all people will feel welcomed when they walk through our doors and will feel affirmed for who they are. Under the inspiration and guidance of the Congregational Life and Outreach Committee, the community is also active in several outreach and justice programs especially regarding poverty and environmental issues. GPUC is a member of Saskatoon’s Anti-Poverty Poverty Coalition as well as a supporter of SOS, the Saskatoon Overnight Shelter initiative. Recent projects include the recognition of World Food Sunday, a trip to the Eco-Centre at Craik, presentations on global issues and donations to various local non profit organizations and ministries.
Grosvenor Park United Church is home to Kids of Note, a unique, inclusive choir for children 6-15. Directed by children's performer Brenda Baker and accompanied by pianist Ken Neitz, it welcomes children, both typical and with special needs, who love music and want the chance to express themselves. A pilot project for a singing group for older members, led by Dianne Phillips, began in September of 2009.

Spiritual Care
Rev. David Kim-Cragg and the Congregational Life Committee take responsibility for this dimension of our ministry. David makes himself available through regular office hours, special meetings and visits for counseling, questions and prayer with anyone seeking accompaniment on their spiritual path. Members of the Congregational Care Committee visit and offer support to newcomers and members of our community who are confined to their homes or in crisis.
In addition to our Sunday morning worship and age specific groups, Adult Education study series are often held midweek during the fall and winter. Last year’s studies included the video series, Testament: The Bible and History; Where the Spirit Dwells: Lenten Reflections on Home; and Experience Jesus, based on a book by Marcus Borg.
